Architecture and infrastructure create a framework for my formal compositions, as I navigate abstract spaces.  As layers are pushed and pulled, a contrasting rhythm is formed. The use of color is informed by my navigation through experiences that challenge the boundaries between emotion and logic. Through the creation of these spaces I allow myself the freedom to be indulgent and curious. Within this process I work intuitively to meet each paintings needs.

For me, making has been an avenue for expression of complex ideas evolving from intuitive emotional responses. Within my work I explore individual emotional navigation, as well as interpersonal relationship dynamics. Using abstraction creates a vocabulary of emotional currency, as well as dictate compositional elements in a formal approach. Pushing and pulling layers and incorporating urban and deconstructed landscapes brings out contrast of rhythm and pattern. The use of color changes with each piece; in the past my work has been completely monochrome, but recently color has exploded into my pieces as my life has changed. There is an interchangeable relationship between mental health and creative depiction within my work. Making allows me to create a dialogue of honesty and confrontation with myself and connect imagery to psychological tendencies.

Artist Statement 2019

My work evolves to depict strong elements of myself through abstraction. Using structures within my surroundings; such as urban landscapes and architecture, I abstract these compositions to allow responses that influence the direction of the work. I develop my pieces through a balance of chaos and process based intuition, working in layers to push and pull the composition. Formal elements driven by emotive responses inform each work. Within exploring different media, I engage in a relationship with the materials learning to control, and exploit their descriptive qualities.
